Novel bi-nuclear boron complex with pyrene ligand: red-light emitting as well as electron transporting material in organic light-emitting diodes.

A novel boron complex bearing a pyrene ligand (CPB) was synthesized and introduced as the first example of a binuclear boron complex in organic light-emitting diodes. In the solid state, CPB2 exhibited strong red emission. In the devices, red emission with Commission International de L'Eclairage (CIE) coordinates of (0.57, 0.42) was obtained by tuning the weight concentration of CPB2. CPB2 beha...

RSC_CC_c0cc01715a 1..3

Significant progress has been made in organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) for display and solid-state lighting applications over the past few decades. The notable advantages of the well-designed organic molecules, such as well-defined molecular structures, facile synthesis, purification and modification, and specific structure–property correlations, are the major reasons that have ensured the...

Red-emitting fluorescent Organic Light emitting Diodes with low sensitivity to self-quenching

Concentration quenching is a major impediment to efficient organic light-emitting devices. We herein report on Organic Light-Emitting Diodes (OLEDs) based on a fluorescent amorphous red-emitting starbust triarylamine molecule (4-di(4’-tert-butylbiphenyl-4-yl)amino4’-dicyanovinylbenzene, named FVIN), exhibiting a very small sensitivity to concentration quenching. OLEDs are fabricated with variou...

Concentration Quenching in Organic Light-Emitting Diodes

Concentration quenching is a general problem in fluorescent and phosphorescent systems. We begin with its theoretical description in solution, where it was first described, then proceed to investigate its mechanisms in both fluorescent and phosphorescent organic light emitting diodes. Two major mechanisms are discussed—molecular aggregation and triplet-singlet intersystem crossing. In the latte...

Thin-film Encapsulation of Organic Light-Emitting Diodes Using Single and Multilayer Structures of MgF2, YF3 and ZnS

In this research, the lifetime of green organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs) is studied using four passivation layers. To encapsulate the OLEDs, MgF2, YF3, composed of alternating MgF2/ZnS and YF3/ZnS layers were grown by thermal vacuum deposition. Measurements show that the device lifetime is significantly improved by using YF3 and ZnS as passivation layers. However, diodes encapsulated by Mg...
